When James Welch sat in on the Broadway play called Junior Miss, he liked the play and name Junior Miss. The play went on to become a magazine series, another run on Broadway in the 1940s and finally a radio show, staring Shirley Temple.
The name of the play stuck with Mr. Welch. Several years later it influenced the name of his new miniature, chocolate-covered mint patties which he called Junior Mints. The year was 1949.
