Honeycombed Peanuts memories... As
kids, my brothers and I lived on peanut butter sandwiches. Our mom
said that as long as there was a jar of peanut butter in the house,
we'd never starve. To my delight, there was a candy that fulfilled all
of my peanut butter fantasies. Honeycombed peanuts, with their
crunchy sweet peanut butter shell and the yummy surprise filling of
actual peanut butter sent us all into eye-rolling, lip-smacking
ecstasy. My mom used them to her advantage, bribing us to keep quiet,
or sit still, all for that promise of peanut butter delight! Our
minister probably wondered why we always had peanut butter breath
after church! ~ Dana from Nebraska
As was the case with
everyone we knew when I was growing up, candy was only for special
occasions. However, my grandmother lived with us and had a glass candy
dish in her room ALWAYS filled with different hard candies. When she
would leave her room, I learned to sneak in, lift the lid, take 2
pieces of candy (1 was never enough and 3 might get me caught) and sloooowly put the lid back so nobody heard the clink of the lid
hitting the dish and know what I was doing.
My favorite was the Honeycombed
peanuts which was only there at Christmas. I let the shell melt in my
mouth until the peanut butter oozed through, making them last as long
as I could. Ahhh, I can taste it now! ~ Nancy from Indiana
Ah, the memories... As a kid,
my mama and I would walk across the street after church to Bea's
General Store and look up and down the isles for this sweet treat.
She would almost always pick chocolate while my eyes searched for
Honeycombed Peanuts. I would hold her hand and suck on the hard
outside until the gooey peanut butter inside would finally melt.
This delicious candy brings back so many sweet memories of my
childhood. I know that even though mama isn't still around, my
memories of her and I buying Honeycombed Peanuts are a timeless
happening. ~ Rebecca from Texas
