I am 42 years old. Back in the 60's when I was a really young kid with 3 brothers close to my age, I lived in Philadelphia, around the corner from the Goldberg Peanut Chew factory. Just past the factory was a candy store named Nellie was about as old as a person can get, and her store was even older. My fondest memory of Nellie's was the long windowed penny candy display with dozens of candy selections.
On hot summer days, the smell of peanut chews being made at the factory would waft down my block and get my brothers and me ready for some candy. One such hot summer day, my mother gave us a quarter (enough to bring back quite a haul in penny candies) and off we went to Nellie's. We made our purchase with much fanfare when we left Nellie's we parked ourselves quickly at one of the Peanut Chew Factory's loading dock doors to divide up what we had bought.
As we sat there and a man from the factory came out the loading dock door with a big blue commercial sized box of Peanut Chews. "Don't eat that other candy, he said to us, "Eat Goldenberg Peanut Chews" as he handed us four the entire box. We believed at that moment that we were the luckiest kids in the world. Funny enough, the candy that I was munching on when the fellow approached us was none other than a Peanut Chew! ~ Luis from New Jersey
