I remember the only conference room we had in town was in the back of the police station where I grew up, so we spent a lot of time there for various reasons. While my brothers and I were waiting on our mom to finish whatever business she was doing, meetings, clubs, etc., we were always bugging her for candy change. She'd give us her purse, we'd dump it out and start digging. There was a vending machine that sold a lot of the old time candies, and I always got the Burnt Peanuts. I would sit and try to eat the coating off first then eat each peanut half to try to pass the time. Those began my obsession with eating the outer layer of every candy I try now and then each individual piece. They were also a huge live saver as a kid, as they kept my idle hands busy!!! ~ Diana from Texas
Burnt Peanuts were the only candy that we could ever find at my
grandmother's house. We always wondered now long these candies had been in
that candy jar, they looked that old. One year, we finally got brave enough
to try one. Amazingly enough they weren't so bad (a little stale but still
sweet). I found them again as an adult, and I bought them for sentimental
reasons. I fell in love with them. ~ Alison from Texas
