Forever Yours memories... When I was in 5th grade I had a crush
on the boy who sat next to me, Brad. Through the next 7 years of
school I continued to like him. When we got to 12th grade, I knew I
needed to do something to get his attention before we graduated and
went our separate ways. I bought 5 Forever Yours candy bars and sent
them to him. Thirty years later he contacted me and I reminded him
of the Forever Yours candy bars I sent him. We both laughed and have
reconnected after all this time. I wish you still had the candy in
the Forever Yours Wrapper. I would send him another box full for old
time sake, because my heart is forever his. ~ Kathy from Virginia
My childhood friend, Nancy, and I loved all candy, especially if
it had CHOCOLATE in it! After school, we would go to Carmody's, the
local candy store, which was very close to our grade school, to
spend some of our weekly allowance money.
Nancy loved milk chocolate, while I much preferred the
darker variety. So, while she would often buy a Milky Way candy bar
(along with as much "penny candy" as her spending money would
allow), I would use my funds to buy a "Forever Yours" bar, the dark
chocolate one.
Nancy's family had an old dog named "Barky," who had been found
by Nancy's father on the local golf course. No one had claimed this
white dog, so he came to belong to their family. One day, Nancy and
I were eating our chocolate bars. I had put mine down for a few
minutes, probably trying to stretch out the pleasure of eating the
delicious candy. We hadn't noticed that Barky had come into the
room. Before we realized it, Barky had eaten all of my candy bar!
Chocolate is supposed to be very bad for dogs, but I don't remember
that Barky was any worse for it--in fact, he looked downright happy!
But from then on, we referred to that particular candy bar as
"Forever Barky's"! ~ Andrea from Wisconsin

The Milky Way bar originated in 1920 and was the
first filled candy bar. It was inspired by the chocolate-malt
milkshake that was popular at the time.
In 1925, the name Milky Way became a
trademark. In 1926, the Milky Way bar was introduced nationally in
two flavors, chocolate and vanilla, each for a nickel. In 1932, the
Milky Way bar was sold as a two piece bar, but just four years
later, in 1936, the chocolate and vanilla flavors forever parted.
The vanilla Milky Way bar, which was covered in dark chocolate
rather than milk chocolate, was renamed the Forever Yours bar. The
Forever Yours bar was discontinued in 1979. Due to popular demand,
the Forever Yours bar returned in 1989 renamed as the Milky Way Dark
bar. In 2000, it was renamed the Milky Way Midnight bar. |
