The length was the result of its braided shape but it didn't actually weigh more than standard candy bars of the time. When sales didn't meet expectations in 1981, Mars discontinued it. We at the Old Time Candy Company were disappointed too... but, we are happy that we discovered the Curly Wurly made by Cadbury. Cadbury is located in England and one of the largest candy makers in the world. They are better known in Europe than in the US and the taste of their chocolate is nothing short of outstanding. We have to import them form England which means they are a little "pricey" but you will not be disappointed. It is a top seller and we have many repeat buyers. It also one of our personal favorites. Jason Liebig sent us a photo (above) of a recent addition to his candy wrapper collection. You can read more about Jason and his collection on Flickr. Image used with permission.
My memory about the Marathon Candy bar are from Elementary School. There was a small store below my house I could walk to, and I always went to the candy looking for something new, and one day I saw a candy bar in a long red flat pack, and it said Marathon in big red letters, it said it was carmel and chocolate, my favorites!!! I tried one and fell in love, I always got them for my birthday, Christmas, Easter, you name the holiday my mom and dad always got me some. And as happens, they stopped making them, and one day a couple years ago, searching marathon Candy Bar online,I was directed to Old Time Candy Co., where my childhood memories can back to life, although the bar was smaller, a sign of the times, it was the same candy bar and I could relive my early years, it brought back those days running outside with my marathon. Old Time Candy Co. helped me go back in time, Thank you!! ~ Keith from North Carolina
