"candy you ate as a kid" story?
Share it here. When I was about 5 years old my parents decided to embark on a cross-country road trip in a 1975 VW Wagon. The objective was to expose us city girls to a bit of our southern roots. I was relagated to the back with my older sister, whose job it was to cause me as much grief as humanly possible.
As we began to pass the farm areas of the midwest, I noticed that all of the cows had their faces to the ground, and that they all appeared to be standing on knolls... so, of course, I came to the conclusion that the cows were blowing up the ground (like blowing bubble gum) and that was how the earth stayed round. Bless the cows, what would we do without them?
Upon our arrival in Kentucky, my great-great-grandmother offered us some sweets. As I was too young to read well, I was already halfway through my candy (and enjoying it!) when my sister pointed out that we were eating Cow Tales. COW TAILS?!?!? What a bad, bad thing... how can the cow's keep the earth round if we kept eating their tails? How do we get their tails back to them?
I didn't know that cows tasted this good! What a dilemma - continue enjoying the cow's tails, or track down the cows missing them and give them back? I'm sure you can imagine the depth of bewilderment as my 5 year old mind tried to wrap it's self around this yummy problem. ~ Bethany from Arkansas
