Candy Memories

Growing up in Chicago, there was a little candy store located around the corner from our house, it was called Mr. Armor's. Every day after school, a group of us kids would go there and my daily treat was the Coconut Watermelon Slices. My friends thought I was crazy for not getting the chocolate ice cube candies or the Sky Blue popsicles - they were good, but couldn't compare to my watermelon slices. I would carefully eat the red part of the slice, trying NOT to eat the rind - cause you didn't eat watermelon rind. But of course, when the red was gone, I ate the green rind!!!! ~ Sue from Illinois
Wow, am I glad that I finally found Coconut Watermelon Slices. I wrote a book about "Dancing Watermelon Babies" and could not find the sweet treats to serve at my book signings. I used to enjoy going to the candy store and spending my allowance on candy. So you see, I invested in my own secret pleasure rather than saving money in my piggy bank. When I saw your ad, my taste buds began to water. I can't wait to place my order. Keep the wonderful memories alive! ~ Marjean from Michigan
On our way to school there was a neighborhood candy store, "Injun Joe's" that we visited every day with a nickel from Mom. This store had it ALL! Novelties, toys, hand-dipped ice cream, bottles of soda, and a wall-length glass case of penny OLDE TIME CANDY!!! I would always choose the COCONUT WATERMELON SLICES! They were thin pieces that resembled a halved slice of watermelon complete with seeds. Nowadays, you can still find them but NOT in the shape described above. I've searched for the original, but I believe they no longer exist. If anyone can find them it would be OLDE TIME CANDY! Long gone, but my nostalgia for them lives on... Paul from Illinois
