Chocolate Gold Coin memories... When I was a kid, we would spend 2 weeks every summer at Mayo Beach (Chesapeake Bay) MD. In the 1950's they allowed slot machine gambling and although I was too young to gamble, I would watch my Grandmother play for hours. I was fascinated when coins dropped out and jingled the tin bowl below

One Halloween, I told my Mother I wanted to dress up as a slot machine. She obtained a big carton from the grocery store, covered it with tin foil, cut a hole in one side for my right arm, a 3 square holes in front, and 1 bigger hole below the 3. My Dad rigged up an unopened roll of paper towels inside the box which I had colored the circumference with rows of 3 cherries, 3 plumbs, 3 bells, and 3 bars. The pictures were exposed through the 3 square holes. We taped a cup in the hole below those which was sticking halfway inside and halfway outside. I had a bag of Chocolate Gold Coins inside the box.

With my right arm sticking out the side bent at a 90 degree angle people could pull my right arm down. Then with my left hand, I would quickly spin the paper towel roll and they would see 3 cherries, plumbs, bells, or bars. I would reach into the bag, pull out 1 to 4 coins, and drop them into the cup where the "player" would collect his winnings.

Although I kept having to replenish the coins every 15 minutes or so, it was the most fun I had ever had at Halloween! ~ Harry from California

Picture it. Christmas morning. The three of us (kids) huddled near the stairs, waiting for the okay from Mom to enter the living room. Our dad, a huge fan of his 8mm camera (70's version of a video camera) would set up so that he could capture our little faces and the joy we showed as we first saw the Christmas tree.

The lights were twinkling on the tree and the bright light from the movie camera would shine on the gold coins that were strewn from the opening of the fireplace to the tree. Mom would always say "Mrs. Claus still hasn't repaired that hole in Santa's pocket yet." We would laugh and dive for the candy. We would pick up as many pieces as we could and take them to our spots on the floor and wait for Mom to hand out the first gift to each of us.

To this day, it is one of my favorite memories. I even do the same thing with my own three children. Nothing like a chocolate coin on Christmas morning to bring back memories. ~ Kim from Colorado
