My chocolate babies memory is from the late 50's. I grew up in a housing projects in Queens. Both of my parents worked and oftentimes when I came home from school there was always a shopping list for me.

At the end of the list mom always wrote in her large cursive hand: "Chocolate Babies" That was my reward for doing the grocery shopping. With the leftover change from the grocery store I'd run to Lipco's drugstore and grab a box of chocolate babies and eat them all before I walked the 1 block back to my building.
