"candy you ate as a kid" story?
Share it here.I made my timely appearance in the early 50's, one of 6 children. My Mom was a School Custodian and my Dad was a Coalminer. Our budget was very tight at home and we were always on the lookout for something good at a good price.
We had our lunches packed by our Mom and we got some change to get a snack after lunch. After I left the school lunchroom, I would go to the little country store across from our school. There were so many tasty treats there to choose from. I didn't want to hurry to pick something special, I always took my time. After careful consideration, I would choose the most wonderful candy in the showcase, which had to be Bonomo's Turkish Taffy. Of course there was only vanilla at first.
We had a brick school building, so I would take the Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy in the palm of my hand and hit it on the bricks of the school building. I carefully opened the package and took a piece of the melt in my mouth goodness. It was so smooth in my mouth and it lasted for along time, which with a limited amount of money, it was just what I needed. I was so happy when they decided to make it in strawberry, banana, and chocolate. I have wondered for years where this delightful candy went to. The store closed down years and I had no idea where to even look for it. ~ Edna from West Virginia
