There’s very few things that most of the world can agree on. One of them is that Chocolate is worthy of an international holiday. Even if your sweet tooth skews to fruitier flavors, you can’t deny that chocolate is top dog when it comes to the candy world.

From our favorite candy bars to birthday cakes to topping our favorite treats, chocolate is one of the fastest ways to put a smile on almost anyone’s face. But did you know the cacao bean, that chocolate comes from, has been enjoyed by humans since around 1900 BC? Of course, the chocolate we know today is much sweeter than the treat enjoyed back then but it was just as well loved.

The best part is, you don’t have to feel bad if you plan on celebrating this sweet day. Chocolate has a nice range of health benefits such as reducing the the risk of a heart attack, providing a strong source of antioxidants, and may even help your skin fight against sun damage. Dark chocolate is the best source of these benefits but as long as you are enjoying your chocolate with care, you can still wave the healthy snack flag. No matter which chocolate you like best, white, dark, or milk, make sure to enjoy one today. Maybe even share with a friend. Or keep it all for yourself because, lets be honest, chocolate is one of the best friends there is. I am so alone.
