Black Jack Taffy memories... I was born in Sioux
City, Iowa and moved about the age of 5, but returned to Sioux City,
ever year to spend weeks during the summer with my aunt and uncle. My
uncle owned a bait and marine shop that I worked in during the week
and spent the weekends at the lake fishing and camping.
One of the first things we did
when I came into town was go to Palmer Candy in Sioux City and load up
on Black Jacks and then we'd have to go weekly to stock up for the
weekend trip!! To this day, when we travel to Sioux City, Iowa.. a
trip to Palmer Candy is on our list to get those Black Jacks!! ~ Kim
from Kansas
My
favorite candy when I was growing up was Black Taffy. I was probably
the only kid in the world who loved black licorice, including my
brothers and sisters. That really worked to my advantage because I
always had plenty.
When I was 8, my daddy came home from work with a box of kittens. My
brothers and sisters took the yellow ones and the tabbys, but I chose
the most beautiful black kitten I had ever seen. My kitten would climb
up on my lap and to my surprise, lick my Black Taffy candy.
I guess I don't need to tell you the rest of the story. My silky,
beautiful cat, that could only be named Black Taffy, is still with me
and I still love Black Taffy candy. My daddy is no longer with me
physically, but he is right here with me and Black Taffy having a lick
or two. ~ Chase from Missouri
My favorite candy as I was growing up was the Black
Jack Taffy Candy. Everyone knew it was my favorite and when I graduated from high school one of my good friends had purchased a whole huge
box of Black Jack Taffy Candy for me as a graduation gift.
I was going to go away to college and I was really excited to take that along to put on my desk. I
thought the box of candy would last me my entire freshman year, but I had a lot of friends who like the candy also and they would come to my
dorm room and have a piece. I still remember how great the candy was and will always have fond memories of it, because it helped me when I
was homesick in my freshman year of college to remind me of home. Now I'm homesick for some of the Black Jack candy taffy. ~ Terri from Iowa
I grew up in Ohio eating Black Jack Taffy and taking it for granted. It's funny, because I do not like "regular" black
licorice. This taffy is definitely lighter. For a few years, my mother was able to find it in the grocery and send it to me. My husband
became hooked since he had never had it before. Because she would only send it once a year, we would ration it carefully.
I was in Ohio only 3 weeks ago and could not find it in any grocery--a big disappointment to both of
us. He's going to love the surprise when my order arrives. ~ Susan from Washington
