[continued from above] TV jingle from the 60s: "It's the chewy candy you don't have to chew, Just put it in your mouth 'til the nuts pop through, Bit-O-Honey goes a long, long way." I was probably one of the luckiest little girls in the world. My grandfather owned a grocery store and we lived next door to it! Every day I would go over and visit him. He would sit me on his lap behind the counter, which conveniently was also where he displayed the candy, and we would talk. It was always at that time that he would ask me if I wanted a piece of candy. He would tell me to choose what I wanted, but he really didn't need to because I always chose Bit-O- Honey. That sweet chewy morsel with the bits of almond was and still is my favorite. After I would tell him I chose Bit-O-Honey, I would always ask him if he wanted one too, and he would reply that he had all the honey he needed right on his lap. Believe me, memories like these are ones you cherish for the rest of your life. ~ Marjorie from Missouri
When I was about twelve years old, I had a friend who lived down the street. I often went to his house, and his mother always had a candy jar of bit of honey on the living room coffee table. This being my favorite candy, I always indulged when I went over. My friend and his sister would sneak to the bedroom and count the number of times the candy jar lid rattled as it opened and closed.
One day, giggling, they came back to the room and announced I had taken 25 pieces in 10 minutes. This may have contributed to my developing diabetes later in life. But I still hold the record for most candy in the shortest amount of time in their household. And I still love bit of honey as much today as I did then, almost 50 years past. ~ Stacy from Texas |
