"candy you ate as a kid" story?
Share it here.I remember when my sister and I both loved the Big Hunk candy bar. We always had several bars hidden in our rooms, purchased nearly every week from Ted and Jean's Market directly across Kellogg Blvd in Wichita, Kansas. We would commonly retrieve them during our summer afternoon naps.
These naps were recommended on the hot summer days to prevent polio. Why did we have to hide them? Our mother thought that too much candy would cause sugar diabetes. But in the case of a Big Hunk, in particular, she was convinced that lost dental fillings were also an expensive side effect of the Big Hunk.
However, the temptation was too great. We truly plotted and planned for our Big Hunk reprieve during the dreaded nap hour, when our friends were still at the local park (College Hill Park) enjoying swimming and riding bicycles. ~ Bill from North Carolina
