Banana Splits memories... I remember this candy very fondly because me and my brother used to love it
so much that my mom would have to ration it out to us when my dad would bring it home for us. We would scarf it down as soon as we got it.
One time it was funny because me and my brother with our loose teeth decided to eat it anyways and my
brother ended up prematurely pulling out one of his baby front teeth and then ended up putting it under his pillow.
With the money we got from the tooth fairy, we snuck to the nearest food market and bought some
Banana Splits. Hehe... aren't we ones to learn from our lessons? But anyways the major point was that we loved Banana Splits so much that
with or without teeth we were addicted and had to have it. ~ Sapna from Arizona
As a child, I would do chores around the house and my mother would give me a 50 cent allowance. Once
I had the money in hand, I would run a few blocks to the local hardware store which had a large variety of penny candy. My favorite was by
far the banana splits.
At the time, these candies were 2 for a penny. I would ask the owner of the store if he would count
me out 50 cents worth of the candy. He would count out 100 of these jewels in a small brown bag and once I gave him the money in exchange
for the bag of taffy... I was walking down the squeaky floor aisle of the store and heading home... but this time with a big huge smile on
my face and a banana split in mouth.
This is one of my fondest memories as a child. I would eat the entire lot of candy, of course sharing
some with my four brothers. Most of the time the store clerk was heading for the brown bag even before I would reach the counter. This was a
pretty typical routine of mine and to this day, I still consider the banana split my favorite candy. ~ Darcey from Michigan
