The 5 Best Holiday Movie Food Scenes
Posted by Bob on 12/6/2010 to The Holidays

It’s hard to picture the holidays without thinking about food. Think of all the delicious Christmas candy and other holiday treats, not to mention the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and other favorites that you eat with your extended family every season.

With all the eating done over the holidays, it’s no surprise that Hollywood has incorporated many memorable food scenes into our favorite holiday movies.

Here’s our top five most memorable holiday movie eating scenes:

5. Elf

Buddy the Elf is sitting down to a nice family dinner with his recently reunited dad and family. First he chugs an entire 2 liter of Coke. Then he asks his step-mom to pass the syrup. She seems confused, telling him its spaghetti. Buddy says not to worry, he’s brought his own. The scene finishes with a very loud belch by Buddy.

4. Mickey’s Christmas Carol

Ebenezer Scrooge is taken to the home of his employee, Bob Cratchit, by the ghost of Christmas Present. He watches through the window as the mom (Minnie Mouse) carries out a pitiful dinner to put on the table. The small meal isn’t enough to discourage loveable Tiny Tim who says, “look at all the wonderful things to eat!” But the sadness of this scene is contrasted by the end of the movie when Ebenezer brings a bag full of toys and a giant turkey to the Cratchits.

3.  The Santa Clause

Tim Allen has just turned into Santa Clause but doesn’t realize it yet. He’s already gained a lot of weight at this point, and he shows up late to a meeting for work in sweats. Everyone at the table places their lunch order. The first co-worker orders salad with dressing on the side and an iced tea. Tim Allen orders salad, no dressing, a homemade cookie, a slice of cheesecake, crème brulee and a hot fudge sundae, much to the horror of his boss and coworkers.  You can hear the Jeopardy theme song playing as Tim Allen finishes every last drop of his hot fudge sundae.

2. Home Alone

Anyone who’s seen Home Alone knows that Kevin McCallister loves plain cheese pizza. There are several memorable pizza scenes in the movie: when his brother Buzz tells him he ate all the pizza and pretends to throw it up on a plate, when Kevin tricks the pizza delivery man with audio from a gangster movie. But our favorite is when Kevin finally gets his cheese pizza, opens it, smells it and says, “a lovely cheese pizza, just for me.”

1. A Christmas Story

Who could forget the scene where Ralphie’s littler brother eats his mashed potatoes?

It’s such a classic scene that we had to quote the movie directly, with help from Internet Movie Database.

Mother: Randy, how do the little piggies go?
Randy: [oinks like a pig]
Mother: That's right. Oink, oink! Now show me how the piggies eat.
[points to his plate]
Mother: This is your trough. Show me how the piggies eat. Be a good boy. Show mommy how the piggies eat.
Randy: [plunges face into mashed potatoes, oinks, eats, and laughs]
Mother: [laughs] Mommy's little piggie!

Don't forget the 1985 movie of Santa Claus where Cornelia gives Joe a big plate of food after her nanny has gone to watch her television show. Mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, roast beef, piece of french bread and last but not least... washes it all down with a can of Coke! ffwd to @ 8:30 http://youtu.be/jeyBJzG7llE That's my favorite Christmas movie food scene.
