Whenever we talk with people about their candy memories bulk candies are among their favorites. We all have memories of a favorite store where the bulk candy was conveniently placed in glass cases or, maybe, glass jars at eye level for kids. My favorite was the drug store on Lakewood Heights Blvd. in Lakewood, Ohio. A nickel bought a lot of Mary Janes in those days. [more below]

They also had bulk panned candies like Jawbreakers, Atomic Fireballs and Boston Baked Beans. Bulk hard candies include favorites like Cinnamon and Butterscotch Disks as well as Ice Blue Mint Coolers, Sour Fruit Balls and Root Beer Barrels.
The stores didn't have bulk Gummi candies when I was a kid but they have now been around since the 1970s with Gummi Bears and Gummi Worms being the best sellers.
I was never a big fan of bulk licorice but others love Licorice Laces, Wheels, Twists and Snaps. Strawberry is the most popular flavor. I was (and still am) a big fan of the bulk jelly candies like Orange Slices, Cherry Slices, Gum Drops and Spearmint Leaves.
Other favorites include Caramel Creams, Gum Balls, Bobs Mint Balls, Peanut Butter Bars and Squirrel Nut Zippers. Whatever your bulk candy favorite we probably have them at the Old Time Candy Company. |
