3 Musketeers memories... Like so many others out there in the world, I had a really tough childhood.
I like to focus on the positive, though, and I do hold onto the fact that there were bright spots-even in the darkest of times.
My beloved maternal grandmother was one of those bright spots. I was the oldest of three, and she
loved and accepted my brother, sister, and I without condition. She offered so much love and stability, and was one of the few adults I
trusted. My grandmother was multi-talented, and one of her talents was for swimming and diving. She taught the three of us how to swim.
She'd come every Wednesday night to pick us up, and we'd go to the public swims at a nearby pool.
After swimming, we were so hungry. We'd go back to the car and she would give us each a 3 Musketeers
bar. It tasted SO good after a couple of hours of swimming. It was the most satisfying thing ever! She's start up the car and we'd unwrap
our delicious candy bars. She'd always say, "Pilot to Co-Pilot, Pilot to Co-Co-Pilot, Pilot to Navigator!" I was her co-pilot, my sister was
her co-co-pilot, and my brother was her navigator.
I remember the smells of our chlorine water-soaked clothes, the smell of her immaculately-kept Volare
(car), and the fresh, nougaty smell of our 3 Musketeers bars combined. It was absolutely delicious. Sometimes, I still smell those smells,
and memories of my grandma come right back to me. May sound strange, but I loved those smells!
My grandma died 9 years ago, when I was 19. She died after an almost 2-year battle with Non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma. I still cry for her, she was just so wonderful. Even today, I occasionally buy a 3 Musketeers candy bar. I sit down, bite into it,
and I think of how much I miss my grandma, and how good it used to taste after swimming.
A 3 Musketeers bar always brings me very sweet memories, so I will always love this candy!! I bite
into one, and my dear grandma comes back to me, just for a precious few moments. ~ Lori from Washington
I always enjoyed a 3 Musketeers bar when I was a kid. I also would eat them right out of the freezer.
I remember in grade school the teacher asked us to do a report on the three Musketeers. I could only relate to the three guys on the candy
bar wrapper. Lucky for me I had two older sisters who brought out the old encyclopedia, and said ,just don't copy word for word.
When I had finished writing the report, I felt that it was still missing something. Oh but of course,
it needed the three guys from my candy bar wrapper. I unwrapped a 3 Musketeers bar and began trying to draw them for the cover of my report.
I don't remember how long it took me to draw them, but I did it using my colored pencils and my 3 Musketeers wrapper. I'm not sure what kind
of grade the report got, but it did give me a reason to have a 3 Musketeers bar that night. ~ Jim from Pennsylvania
